The Liberty was designed by ZAFT in CE 77 as a testbed and a base for future mass production models to derive from. The ZGMF-X10A Freedom was used as a starting point with entirely new thruster designs implemented to increase the MS's speed especially in evasive maneuvers. Swiveling additional thrusters on the hips were attached, to aid in sudden stops in mid air or to aid in maintaining high speeds during combat. The distinctive 'angelic' wing design was replaced with one similar seen in the ZGMF-X42S Destiny, even implementing a Wings of Light system although it is still entirely possible for the "Hikari no Tsubasa" to drain energy from the reactor quicker than it could replenish it. A lighter steel alloy was used throughout the MS's construction for the sake of more agility operating in Earth's atmosphere. The entire cockpit and seat was even redesigned, with a major emphasis in pilot ergonomics especially for long duration missions.
A DRAGOON system of a similar design used by the Strike Freedom was immediately deemed too expensive for even a prototype, due to Chairman Takao Schreiber's policy changes which reduced the funding towards MS development. To compensate, a new design of a high output plasma beam cannon is stored in the Liberty's left wing. Obligatory head mounted CIWS machine guns are mounted on the Liberty's head to destroy high speed missiles aimed at the MS, along with two beam sabers for close combat. The Liberty's beam rifle is of an entirely new design using a new feature- The pilot can adjust between a higher rate of fire at the cost of more damaging shots or vice versa.
For protection, the MS uses variable phase shift armor against solid projectiles and two beam shields to absorb beam rifle shots. A derivative of the foldable, compact "Xiphias" railgun can be mounted on the MS's right wing, which could fire the explosive shells with least 50% more kinetic energy and range thanks to the longer barrel. If the pilot wishes, the wing stored railgun can be removed for a sheath holding an anti-ship sword if the battle places an emphasis on close combat. According to the design team that was responsible for creating the Liberty, despite its obvious similarities to the -X42S, they had hoped that should the -X410T unfortunately face actual combat, it would have a similar pivotal role the -X10A did in the first Bloody Valentine war.
Originally designed for a Gundam SEED RP that takes six years after the events of SEED Destiny. After my character somehow managed to keep himself alive, he was going to upgrade from his ZAKU to this. I know the technical notes/development was rather long but I was in quite the writing mood. >_>
Sadly, that same Gundam RP never quite got off the ground, since the creator had disappeared. Instead of sitting on my hard drive unfortunately forgotten and unused, I had recalled a RP forum a friend suggested I join instead, and hopefully it would see action- although it now faces more enemies, such as Variable Fighters, Orbital Frames and NEXTs.
The colors are a match to Nu Gundam, but I figured it'd be a homage since Nu's an awesome MS to begin with.
Yes, it is a frankengundam, since anyone who recognizes the Freedom, Strike Freedom, and Destiny should be quick to notice to what sections I 'borrowed'. Hope it was a decent blend.
Many thanks to Bryant Molirse of the Mechatalk forums. If it weren't for you, this MS would not have existed in the first place.
